Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication
Dr Keith Goldberg is the first surgeon in Middle Tennessee to offer the newest FDA approved procedure designed to treat chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease. Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) is a natural orifice surgery to repair the lower esophageal sphincter and prevent acid reflux. It is performed guided by endoscopy and may not require surgical incisions in patients without large hiatal hernias. The procedure utilizes the EsophyX Z plus device first developed in 2007. It allows him to place sutures to repair the valve in the lower esophagus without the long term side effects of traditional surgery. It is often combined with minimally invasive laparoscopy to repair hiatal hernias and repair the defective diaphragm. It has been performed worldwide in over 22,000 patients. Approximately 80% of patients will be able to discontinue their daily medications and avoid the potential risks associated with long term proton pump inhibitors (such as Prilosec and Nexium). Dr Goldberg is perfoming TIF exclusively at NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield, Tennessee.
